Rxpert Solutions Consulting Services:

Controlled Substance Drug Diversion Program Development

A comprehensive program is multidisciplinary in nature. Controlled substance diversion monitoring is a component of medication safety and core essential for the facility. A pharmacist with an expertise in drug diversion will assist you in establishing a program of prevention, monitoring and responding from the ground up or adding to your existing program where gaps are identified.

Controlled Substance Drug Diversion Risk Assessment

A comprehensive on site review of your current processes for areas of risk. Risk must first be minimized then combined with a monitoring program. Rxpert Solutions will evaluate for risk along the entire medication pathway with the goal of improving security and accountability.

Controlled Substance Diversion Auditing

Federal and state laws address controlled substance monitoring and reporting of loss or theft. A regular auditing program needs to be in place at every facility. Rxpert Solutions can assist you in getting that audit program established, train staff who will be involved in the auditing process, and offer support in the event of a suspected diversion case. Finding those who are diverting requires a systematic approach. With time comes experience which is valuable as addicts can be quite ingenious. We offer support with the monitoring process based on your needs.

Interview Strategy and Techniques Training

So much time is spent on monitoring for drug diversion and once diversion is suspected, even more time is devoted to gathering data and reviewing the audit findings. Often at this stage, the findings are turned over to someone who lacks experience or skill at conducting an interview. This means, unless the diversion is so obvious anyone can see it or the healthcare worker has a burning desire to admit to the diversion, the interview was inconclusive and the healthcare worker is given coaching and told they need to stop doing whatever it was that aroused suspicion. Many opportunities to stop diversion are lost at this stage and instead diversion behavior continues. Learn how to conduct a productive interview. Learn how to set up your physical environment for maximum effectiveness. Learn what types of questions to ask and how to ask them. Learn how to read truthful or deceptive verbal and non-verbal behaviors and adjust the interview techniques accordingly. Maximize the potential for an admission. Rxpert Solutions will:

  • send in an expert to conduct the interviews
  • train your staff on interview strategies and techniques
  • train as well as participate in the interview process

Medication Safety

Medication Safety is a broad topic. It is crucial and must be considered at all times. Rxpert Solutions offers risk assessments on the medication use process. A pharmacist who has been through MERP and GACH surveys will review and offer suggestions on the facility’s MERP and error reporting program.

Regulatory Compliance

If you have been given a citing from a regulatory body and are now in need of assistance with correction we can assist you. Rxpert Solutions can act as your independent pharmacist consultant if a consultant is a condition of probation.

Pharmacy Leadership and Operations

Are you in need of an Interim Director of Pharmacy? Need processes within your pharmacy reviewed with fresh eyes? Rxpert Solutions offers a pharmacist with years of leadership and operational experience, along with an outside perspective, to help you identify areas that could benefit from change and suggest solutions for those changes. Our consultants have been selected for not only their experience but also their work ethic. We would welcome the opportunity to bridge the gap while you search for your permanent candidate or come in and assist your current staff with the goal of making improvements and increasing efficiency.

Education and Training

All staff need to understand the risk of diversion, how to prevent it, how to watch for signs of an impaired coworker, and their obligation to report. All nurse managers need to understand the risks and how to monitor and manage suspected diversion. Staff also need to understand proper medication use processes and medication safety goals. Rxpert Solutions will come onsite to educate on these topics or provide webinar type education. Read More.
